Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over the years, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and the Iran Contra affair. She travelled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
